WDWNT.com A monorail line at Walt Disney World began normal operations Monday morning after it became stuck with 120 passengers on board the night before. Passengers reported lightning as the reason the train lost power Sunday night, but a Disney official said there was no evidence of an actual lightning strike. Disney officials tried to restart the train, but were unable to restore power. Many of the passengers had to climb through an emergency hatch on the roof of the train where they were strapped into a safety line and walked out through another train car and down an escape stairwell. One passenger suffered a panic attack, but was able to get out safely. There is no word on what caused the train to lose power.

About 120 passengers were evacuated from a Walt Disney World monorail Sunday evening due to a weather-related power outage. The monorail stopped on a stretch of track between the Transportation and Ticket Center and Disneys Wilderness Lodge. Workers spent about 30 minutes trying to restart the monorail to return it to a station to unload the passengers, officials said. Once those measures proved unsuccessful, the Reedy Creek Fire Department spent an hour evacuating the passengers from the monorail using a special stairwell device and other vehicles equipped with platforms, Fire Chief Bo Jones said. No one was injured, and there were no medical emergencies. Once lowered to the ground, the passengers were escorted to busses provided by Disney.
